## The chat screen

| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| **‹** (top left) | Back to the bot's threads. |
| **Bot avatar** | Opens the bot's profile. |
| **Bot name and subtitle** | The subtitle shows **Working…** while the bot works, otherwise the thread's title. |
| **Stop** | A red pill that appears while the bot works. Stops the current turn. |
| **…** (top right) | The More menu. |
| **Steps** | Tap *"3 steps · …"* to see what the bot did. |
| **Message box** | Type here. Attach, approval mode, send, and the Live button. |

Tap a message to show its time.

## Send a message

1. Type in **Message Scout**.
2. Tap the **send** arrow.

While the bot is working, you can still type. The box says *"Scout is
working — sends when this turn finishes"*, and your message waits its turn.
To change course right away, tap **Stop** first, then send.

### Attach a file or photo

Tap the **paperclip** and pick files or photos. They're copied to the bot's
computer. See [Attachments](/docs/desktop/chat/attachments).

### Talk instead of typing

- **Your keyboard's microphone** turns speech into text, like any app.
- **The Live button** (sound-wave icon, at the right of the empty message box)
  starts a [Live call](/docs/desktop/mobile/live-on-your-phone).

The voice-message and dictation buttons of Machine Desktop aren't on phones.

## The More menu

Tap **…** at the top right:

| Choice | Does |
|---|---|
| **Bot's computer** | Opens the bot's computer. See [The bot's computer](/docs/desktop/mobile/bots-computer). |
| **Model** | Choose the AI model for this thread. |
| **Find in conversation** | Search this thread. |
| **Export conversation** | Save or share the thread. |
| **Usage** | What this thread has cost. |
| **Kick** | Stop, reconnect and reload when a bot seems stuck. |

## Message actions

Long-press a message:

![Long-pressing a message](/images/docs/desktop/phone-message-sheet.webp)

| Action | Does |
|---|---|
| **Reply** | Quote the message in your next one. |
| **Copy message** | Copies the text. |
| **Edit message** | Your own messages, when the bot isn't busy. Sends your new version from that point; the old message and the replies after it are replaced. |
| **Regenerate response** | The bot's last reply. Asks it to try again. |
| **Pin message** / **Unpin message** | Keeps the message at the top of the thread. |
| **Show raw markdown** | See the text without formatting. |

## Approvals and questions

When a bot needs your OK, an approval request appears in the chat, exactly
like on desktop (with *1 of 3* when several are waiting). The message box
says *"Answer the approval above to continue"* until you choose.

| Button | Does |
|---|---|
| **Allow once** | Lets the bot do this one thing. |
| **Allow all 3** | When several requests are waiting, allows them all, once each. Never covers sending, deleting, or This PC. |
| **Deny** | Says no, and the bot stops its turn there. |
| **Cancel turn** | Stops the bot's whole turn. |

When a bot asks a question, a card with lettered choices appears. Tap one,
or tap **Skip**.

See [Approvals](/docs/desktop/models/approvals) for what each choice means.

## When a thread is new

A new thread shows the bot's description and three starters: *"What can you
do for me?"*, *"Show me what's on your computer"* and *"Help me set you up for
my work"*. Tap one to send it.

## A cold computer

If the bot's computer was asleep, you'll see *"Setting up this bot's
computer…"* with a timer: *"A cold computer takes about a minute to boot. You
can leave — the reply will be here when you come back."*

## Group chats

Group chats work the same way, with a bar under the header for the group's
threads and who answers by default (**Everyone responds** or **Only when
mentioned**). Group chats have no Live calls.
