# Driving Machine from Slack

Connect a Slack workspace so your team can start and steer agent work without leaving chat.

Canonical page: https://themachine.myapps.ai/docs/guides/using-slack

Connect **Slack** to a project and your team can kick off work, answer an agent's
questions, and follow along — all from a channel. Set it up under the project's
**Settings → Channels**.

## Connect Slack

### Add the app

On the **Slack** card, click **Add to Slack** to install Machine's own Slack app
in one click. If your workspace connects through a Slack app you own instead,
or you prefer that, click **Use your own Slack app** (or **Set up Slack** when
it is the only option).

### Using your own app

The setup walks you through three steps. Machine gives you a Slack app
**manifest** — a ready-made configuration. In Slack, create a new app "From a
manifest" and paste it; it sets the right scopes, slash command, and event
subscriptions for you. Install the app to your workspace, then paste its **Bot
User OAuth Token** and **Signing Secret** back into Machine. Machine stores
them encrypted on the server as connector credentials and uses them only
server-side; they never reach a sandbox. Once connected, the channel is live.

### Set the channel's defaults

Once the bot is in a Slack channel, that channel shows up under **Channel
bindings** on the same page. For each one, pick the **Agent**, the **Model**,
and the **Join policy** (who can start work there). A channel you leave alone
follows the project default, so a support channel and an engineering channel
can run different agents. You can also set these from Slack with
`/kortix agent`, `/kortix model`, and `/kortix policy`.

## Use it in a channel

Once connected, your team works with the agent right in Slack — mention it with
a task, and the agent runs a session and replies in the thread. It can ask
clarifying questions and you answer inline, the same back-and-forth you'd have
in the dashboard, where everyone in the channel can follow along.

> **Info**
> Slack is one of several ways in — the same project, sessions, and review gate
> back it. Work started from Slack shows up in the dashboard too, and still lands
> through a [change request](/docs/guides/reviewing-changes).

## Other channels

Slack is not the only chat surface. On the same **Settings → Channels** page
you can also connect:

- **Inkbox** — text, iMessage, email, or call the agent through your own Inkbox
  account. See [Inkbox](/docs/connect/inkbox).
- **Glyph** — talk to a session's agent by voice with the **Live** button in
  the session header. See [Glyph](/docs/connect/glyph).
